Hi! Mei and I just joined the community! My partner and I adopted Mei from the shelter 3 months ago. We're not too sure how old she is; the vet says that she's 1 year and the shelter said that she's 4 years. She's a pinto akita.

I checked the memories and back entries through February and couldn't find any entries about home owners insurance. Google searches didn't return too much information. Does anyone with a dog listed as a "no coverage breed" have a success story about obtaining homeowners insurance? Most sites listed akitas, german shepherds, pitbulls, dobermans, chow chows, and alaskan malamutes as breeds that may not be covered.
If you haven't been successful in finding coverage that includes your dog, have you purchases additional liability insurance just for your dog?
Thanks!

Well - that's not a picture of it - but, a friend of mine is going to sell me hers.
I rode on it today - seriously, I'm going to wet my pants.
And grow a moustache, obviously.
Some week ago my friends and I went to a six flags park. 3 of the 6 of us were in converse. We have pictures.
I wish I had my camera, I would have took at least 100 pictures of all the people in converse.

wheew :)Are there any non-hatha yoga classes north of Pittsburgh? I looked in the yellow pages, but couldn't find any. I was hoping maybe there's some small, unlisted classes around.
Hello! I brand new, to this community, and to dogs. Well, A few nights ago, my boyfriend found a puppy by a dumpster. We were just going to give it a warm place and food for the night, but then that puppy mill got busted and all our shelters are filled up, so our only option was to take him to the pound where he'd be put down after three days. I didn't like those odds. So, it looks like I'm keeping him.

He's living in the bathroom until we train him, and clean the rest of the house better.
Does anyone have any tips for a first time dog owner? I've done cat rescue for years, so I'm basing most of my current knowledge on that. Does anyone have any obvious tips that would be easy for a newbie to overlook?
I take him outside every couple of hours, and he's getting better about it, but he's still thinking it's okay to use the bathroom in the house. I've got his room lined with paper though, and I'm taking him out to explore the rest of the house for about 15 minutes at a time, several times a day. I'd let him out more, but he's got so much energy, it's a real effort for me to keep up! I bought him lots of things to chew on, haha. He still doesn't have a name. I know what I want to name him, but my housemates say they want a name they can all pronounce. I'm going to call around on Monday to find a place to get him a check-up and neutered and whatnot. Anything else? I really don't want to mess this up. Okay, he's howling, I'm going to go check on him.
Oh wait, one more thing. What breed and age does he look? I'm guessing mutt, about 3-6 months.

This is my brother's dog Snoopy. I finally got some decent pictures of him today! He's a very loving dog and very cute! He loves to play and bark (rather loudly) at strangers. His favorite game to play is tug-of-war.
They've had him from a pup and the only problem he has is separation anxiety. He's gotten a lot better though and is a very happy social dog!
My husband and I are having a debate that I need some help with.
I've decided to redecorate the apartment. Like, all out ... paint, curtains, couches etc. I really liked the idea of painting the walls a sage green, chocolate brown curtains and furniture, and hot pink accents. The husband ... well, let's just say he's not overly fond of that idea. His words were "Pink ? Are you serious ? You're actually serious ?" and says that if I paint anything pink he's going to put a life sized Batman portrait on the wall !
The other problem is that we have a very long front hallway, and I've already painted my kitchen, bathroom (a combination of the teal from the kitchen and the purple from my daughters room) and my daughter's bedroom (a light purple). The bedroom and bathroom won't matter so much, but the kitchen will since it's seen from the main living room ... and the long hall because it flows right into the living room and kitchen. The rest of the kitchen's walls are white, I only painted that one wall.
Now I am rethinking about the sage green walls, maybe paint them the chocolate brown instead. But dark colors make small spaces seem smaller, and I really want to avoid that. So, I am looking for some color ideas, pictures are awesome (so the husband can see for himself !!) and bonus points for incorporating hot pink !!
**For the record, I'm hoping to end up with a new couch very soon*

We visited Buffalo last weekend, and found in the mall near our hotel the nearby greyhound rescue group was having a meet-and-greet. I met and greeted these lovely greyhounds, as well as their humans. These dogs were friendly and affectionate, and so was the lovely lady they brought with them. She had lots of information and advice coming from her years of adopting and fostering greyhounds.
We don't have a dog now. I have long considered greyhound adoption a very good option for us, since they are very tolerant of the long stretches of time my partner and I spend out of the house working. Of course, meeting these two and a few more that day showed me how lovely they can be, as well. I'm sure they can be real cuddle monsters!
So tell me your greyhound stories. Not the normal advice one can find on any greyhound website, but your experiences. (I've just started reading the
